Research + community insights determine statewide focus areas
Washington state ranks second in the concentration of STEM jobs. Yet many young people don’t have access to experiences such as internships, job shadowing, and technical training programs that position them for these careers. Washington STEM works with business leaders and educators to develop a coordinated approach to link Washington students with STEM careers.
Research demonstrates early math development can have profound effects on future academic achievement. Washington STEM works with education and community partners to provide high-quality early math education to every Washington student.
Our state has an opportunity to better support students of color, students with low-income and rural backgrounds, and young women by removing systemic gaps to access high-demand credentials and family-sustaining careers. Our STEM by the Numbers report series offer statewide and region-by-region analyses of the need for STEM talent and opportunities for student success through STEM.
We continue to work in STEM related areas of K-12 including science and engineering through the Washington State LASER network, and computer science through state and national partners. These areas are essential drivers in the work towards our impact goals.
